The Youth Futurity is open to any persons 18 years of age or younger, and horses need not have affiliation with CCQHA. Youth cannot show stallions in any class.

CCQHA Breeders and Sale Futurities

Any horses participating in the Breeders Futuritiies must have been born in the year that either its Sire or Dam was a CCQHA Nominated Sire/Dam. Horses participating in the Sale Futurities must have been purchased at a CCQHA Sale. It is possible to have a horse eligible to participate in both Futurities, and win money from both events.

Classes shown will be in the following order

Two Year Old Performance:
2 Year old horses will perform in the 2 yr old Ranch Horse Riding competition and perform a reining pattern. Horses are judged on their ability to demonstrate a basic reining pattern, consisting of circles, stops, rollbacks, and turns. Points are awarded on each area and emphasis is based on smoothness.

Three Year Old Performance:
Three year old horses will have to perform in the Ranch Cutting competition, and perform a Reining Pattern. This class is judged on the ability of the horse to work a cow by separating it from the herd, driving it to the middle of the arena, a reining pattern, consisting of circles, stops, rollbacks, backup and turns.

Yearling Lunge Line:
The purpose of this class is to reward quality of movement, conformation and trainability. Longe line may not exceed 30 feet in length. The exhibitor will have 90 seconds to present their horse (45 seconds will be announced). The horse will be scored at a walk, trot, and lope in both directions.

Four Year Old Performance:
4 year olds will be judged on Conformation, Overall Appearance & Attitude, Handling ability, reining pattern, cattle work, dragging a roping dummy, etc. Horse will be scored on his willingess to pull a roping dummy, spookiness, and control of the rope. Rider will put on a slicker from the fence, put it back on the fence, and open a gate, ride through and close the gate.

Five Year Old Team Roping:
There will be a HEADING and a HEELING futurity (judged separately) with a total of four runs on each end. You pick your own partner for each event. The heading horse will be judged on five different maneuvers: Box & Barrier, Run & Rate, Setting & Handling, Facing. The heeling horse will be judged on: Box, Run & Rate, Position, Stopping.

Studs and fillies will be shown together. Classes will be judged on 70% Movement and 30% Conformation.

Breeders Futurities class will be separate from Sale Futurites class, but studs and fillies will be shown together in both classes. Youth cannot show stallions in any class.
